Mrs. Miller Goes to Mars

Submitted by kate.elliott on

Katie Miller, a 6th grade science teacher, went to Mars last week to do a simulation at the Mars Desert Research Station.   She spent a whole week living like an astronaut would live on Mars.  She ate freeze-dried food from Earth and took care of plants in a greenhouse. She also got to drive a Mars Rover and do field research.  She found dinosaur bones in the field and learned a lot about the geology of the area.  Welcome back to Earth Mrs. Miller!

Penny Wars Fundraiser COMING SOON!

Submitted by sarah.brunson on

MGMS Student Council in correlation with local charitable giving opportunities bring to you Penny Wars! Our penny wars are set for November 15-19, 2021!

How Penny Wars Work:

The basic premise of a penny war fundraiser is that students bring spare change to school for a set period of time, in this case one week, and deposit it into containers. At the end of the collection period, the change is  donated toward local families in need  through Nebo School District.

Solar System Scrolls

Submitted by kate.elliott on

Students in Hannah Nelson's class used a scroll of adding machine paper to try and predict how close the planets in the solar system are (or are not).  Then the students folded the paper to reveal the actual scale model.  The students were SHOCKED at just how close the inner planets were.

Scale of the Solar System

Katie Miller's class learned about the scale of the solar system by creating the planets.  Clark Planetarium also joined Mrs. Miller's class to discuss the scale of the solar system and the students learned distance of the planets based on their size and hung them in the halls of Maple Grove Middle School
