Fueled by Mitochondria

Students learned about the mitochondria and ribosomes of a cell - the organelles that provide protein and energy. Then, they got to see those cool organelles at work as they moved their bodies in a hilarious hula-hoop competition.

Maple Grove Orchestra to Utah Valley Symphony

Submitted by kate.elliott on

Today orchestra students took a trip to the Provo Covey Center for the Arts to see a performance by the Utah Valley Symphony.  The orchestra played music from Westside Story and some classical pieces featuring young student soloists.  One of our own, Brayden Barney, performed as a soloist at the concert.  The Maple Grove Middle orchestra was so happy to be there to listen and support Brayden.  He played the Vivaldi Concerto in A minor and he sounded amazing.  Congrats to Brayden for being selected for the performance!

Love Song Poetry!

Submitted by kate.elliott on

It's the season of LOVE! Ms. Dannelly's English classes got into the spirit of Valentine's Day by creating love song poetry. Students took lyrics from various love songs from the decades and created a new poem. There were sappy poems, breakup poems, funny poems, and sweet poems. We even had a few performances as brave students sang their love song poetry! These students have been working hard in class writing essays, so it was fun to relax and be creative!

Maple Grove Battle of the Books

Submitted by kate.elliott on

Nearly 100 students competed on 24 different teams to answer questions from the 20 book titles that the students read to compete.   When the final two teams battled, it took two rounds to decide the clear winner!  Congratulations to the Libro Vermes  who won the Maple Grove Battle of the Books and who will be progressing on to the district Battle of the Books in March!   Thanks to all the students who worked so hard during the competition!  Well-done!

Maple Grove 7th Graders - Job Shadow Day!

Submitted by kate.elliott on

On Ground Hog Day, over 90% of the 7th Graders at MGMS went to work! They participated in the Job Shadowing program that is part of their CCA class curriculum. Job Shadowing for our students is important because it may be their first, practical exposure to a particular career or even to the world of work in general. Job Shadowing allows a student to observe a career path of their interest.
