Maple Grove Students' Reading Leads to Donations for Refugees

Submitted by kate.elliott on

Many students at Maple Grove have read the powerful and moving book, When Stars are Scattered. It is based on the true story of two brothers who spend their childhood and adolescent years in a refugee camp where food and supplies are in short supply, but where friendships and hope flourish.

These students then met early this morning to tie the first of many fleece blankets that will be donated to refugees.

The Maple Grove Orchestra put on an amazing holiday show on Wednesday night!   The students have really worked hard and sounded wonderful as they enthralled the audience with holiday music!  Angela Harman is a masterful conductor who involves the audience in the show!

Winter at the Grove

There is so much winter fun going on here at Maple Grove.  We had a fun spirit week with great sweaters, socks, and and lights and we had a wonderful Winter Festival where the fine arts groups from Maple Grove performed for the school.  We got to see the orchestra, band, lots of amazing art, the choir, and the dancers!  What a great show!  Happy Holidays from the Grove!

Katie Miller's class was learning about thermal conductivity with different types of cups. The goal of the activity was to see which cup could keep the hot chocolate the hottest for the longest.  The hope was that Mrs. Miller would have hot chocolate all the way through the Hogle Zoo Lights!

7-Habits of Highly Effective Teens

Submitted by kate.elliott on

Growing up isn't easy!  The 7th graders at Maple Grove are on there way to becoming even more amazing.  In their CCA classes, students were introduced to "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens (People)".  These 7 powerful Habits teach teens that they have the ability to choose their behavior but not the consequences. They learned how to set goals, get organized, prioritize, make good decisions, and most of all to help build good character.
